This website accompanies the book Experimental Cinema: Structures, Systems and Strategies by Simon Payne (BFI/Bloomsbury, 2026).
It is a repository of links to several of the films and videos that are covered in the book. It is a work in progress, with additional links forthcoming. The content is only visible on a desktop screen. The films and videos below are compiled under the chapter headings of the book, corresponding with the order in which they are discussed. Many of them have been provided by the artists themselves. Sometimes the links take viewers to secondary sources such as UbuWeb and Youtube, or designated distributors that charge a small fee. All of the work that is listed here, and covered in the book, is available to hire for public screenings and exhibitions etc. Distributors include LUX (London), Lightcone (Paris) and the Film-makers Cooperative (New York City). Any opportunity to see this work screened in its original format is highly recommended.
